Mount Fold-more piling up at your house? Need tips on finding time in the laundry?
Never ending piles of clothes in baskets or still hanging on the line from 3 days ago? Yep this happens in my home too! Here is how I save time in my laundry.
We recently built and moved into our brand new house, and with that came a brand new laundry and whilst it isn’t a massive laundry, I designed it to be practical with lots of cupboard space. Handily, just outside of the laundry in the hall way is my massive linen press.
I had searched Pinterest high and low for a way to help me organise the laundry to be practical, however what I thought I wanted in my head didn’t really work when it came to the piles of kids and adults clothes that ended up being dumped in there.
One day while at Bunnings I came across some plastic drink tubs and I though hey they would be easier to carry around then the hard plastic baskets that I had for the laundry that always break if they get dropped. I purchased 4 of them and next without realising I had set up a system that seems to work in my laundry.
I have a laundry cupboard basket that was designed to throw the dirty clothes into, however by the time there are a few towels in there it is pretty full so I set up my system.
The 4 plastic drink tubs I got fit perfectly lined up along the bench. So I have 1 for kids clothes, 1 for work clothes, 1 for lights and 1 for darks. And the cupboard laundry basket is for towels and linen.
During the week I have the baskets set up along the bench and each day I throw in clothes that correspond with the baskets. When I am ready to do a load of washing which I do at night I can then grab the basket which is ready to be washed and throw that in the washing machine. I set the machine on timer so that it is ready in the morning to be hung out.
My tips for finding time in the Laundry
- Set up a system of baskets for easy sorting
- Put a load on every night set the timer if you have one and it is then ready to hang out in the morning
- Make sure you hang it out in the morning
- Bring in when you get home and fold it straight off the line.
- Put away as soon as you can
That sounds simple enough, doesn’t it!!
However, I can’t say I am on top of mount Fold-more, as this would be a lie. The piles still some how manage to grow each week. But the sorting of laundry has definitely saved time. I don’t have to sort through piles to find what clothes can be washed with what. And not mixing red clothes with white shirts (hubby loves when his white business shirts turn out pink!).
Have you got any great tips for finding time in the laundry? I’d love to hear them, leave me a comment.
Happy Folding 🙂
