Alarm is going off – its time for your morning routine
Beep beep beep, that sound I hate to hear in the morning. My initial response, ok my every morning response is hit that snooze button 1,2 maybe even 3 times then I finally drag my butt out of bed. I am most definitely not a morning person so I tend to set my alarm for half an hour earlier than I need to get up.
My morning usually looks like this;
Kids have brekky with hubby while I jump in the shower and get dressed
I then grab the kids clothes and Dave dresses the kids while I get my lunch and Henrys lunch ready and pack our bags.
Kids play on their ipads while dave or I put the breakfast mess away.
Shoes and socks on.
Into the car.
Now you may have noticed I haven’t mentioned Dave getting ready. That is because Dave works from home, so he gets himself organised after we leave so he can start work by 8.30.
However the above plan only works 50% of the time as Dave could be away on a few nights work trip and then the plan slightly changes and I always allow an extra 15 mins or so as I get the kids ready.
See how confusing all that is. Without having some sort of routine and a family planning calendar I am sure I would forget to take the kids to school or forget what day of the week it is. Ever feel like this?
Here is a list of Tips to help get your morning routine in order.
- Map out how long it takes to get ready in the morning. Write a list of tasks/jobs are required to be completed in the morning. For example 15 mins for brekky, 15 mins to get dressed, 15 mins to pack bags, 20 mins for showers, 5 mins clean teeth. Then work backwards. If you need to leave the house at 8am, then work back. Make a time line
8am – leave house
7.45 – teeth, put shoes and socks on, grab bags and get in the car
7.30 – get dressed
7.15 – eat breakfast
7.00 – kids wake up and toilet
6.45 – parents wake and have shower
So you can see that it would take approx 1 hour 15 mins to get out the door each morning.
- Aim if you can to get out of bed between 15 to 30 mins before the kids. I am an insomniac so getting up early I struggle with this big time! However I do find the days I do get up before the kids usually run smoothly as I have had some time to myself before the morning starts. And if I drank coffee (yes I hate the stuff even the smell) I would sit at the bench drinking it.
- Have a printable check list. If the kids are younger have an icon or picture so they know what to do. I have included my Morning Routine for you over in my VIP Library to access this please subscribe to my mailing list.
- Other tips include – getting ready items that you can the night before, such as pack bags, make lunches, lay out clothes. These tips will be in the Evening Routine and Parents Routine lists also.
